The Magic Show with David Reed-Brown
Sleight of hand, mind-reading, close-up magic and more mystical illusions with a “Harry Potter” theme will be showcased at “The Magic Show,” starring magician and ordained minister, David Reed-Brown, coming to Town Hall in Essex on March 21 at 7:00 p.m. A highlight of the show will be the levitation of Essex Elementary School Guidance Counselor Marjorie Russell. Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for children and may be purchased at Toys Ahoy! in Essex; Partner's Antiques in Essex; Gather in Ivoryton; and Celebrations in Deep River. Warm Up With Chili Supper
Enjoy a variety of home-made chilis and learn more about the pervasive problem of bullying in today’s society at a “Warm Up With Chili” supper on February 28 at 6:00 p.m. at The First Congregational Church in Essex, 6 Methodist Hill in Essex Village. Proceeds from a tax-deductible, free will donation will benefit the church’s Third Annual Anti-Bullying Scholarship fund. Co-chair of the event, Emily Williams of Old Saybrook noted, “In addition to raising funds for the scholarship, it is our hope to heighten awareness of all types of bullying in our communities, including that of children, youth and the elderly, as well as in the workplace.” Following the chili supper, there will be a short vid
Rummage On The Hill Sale
Bargains abound at the annual Rummage On The Hill sale at The First Congregational Church in Essex, 6 Methodist Hill in Essex Village on Saturday, October 12 from 9 am to 2 pm, rain or shine. Choose from quality goods in many departments including women's, men's and children's clothing, women's jewelry and accessories, books, home goods, paintings and frames, tools, and small furniture and lamps. Popular features of the sale are the Boutiques and Antiques room, featuring rare gifts and collectibles and the Silent Auction with dolls, fine items and wine/gift baskets. Take home some home made goodies from the Bake Sale and have lunch at The Grill. Donations of rummage in good condition will be accepted at the church from Monday, October 7 through Thursday, October 10. If you cannot drop off your rummage or have pieces of small furniture to donate, call the church office at (860) 767-8097 to arrange for a pick up. The church does not accept rummage that is damaged, soiled or unusable. We also do not accept electronics, computers, TVs, children's toys, linens or sporting goods of any kind.
